Stone Toad

small games, made to be set down — elwood@stonetoad:~/about

About

Stone Toad is one person. My day job keeps the lights on and the wife and kid fed. This is the long game, hopefully.

I want to make games that feel like the ones I grew up with, back when we had most of what we have now but it didn't consume us. The internet was real, but it lived on a computer you had to sit down at. Phones were for calls and short texts, not a second life in your pocket. Games got played in small bits, between the rest of living. That's the spirit I'm after: things you enjoy and then set down.

I write the code, write the words, and set up the machines myself. Mostly Linux machines, building the games in Godot 4 on a stack of laptops that have no business still being used in 2026. The games lean toward the ones I grew up on: Oregon Trail, Doom, Road Rash.

I've also been an avid reader since I was a kid, and somewhere in there I always wanted to write my own stories. I've been working on a few over the last couple of years. Publishing a novel is the long-term dream, and I'm chipping away at it. Poetry's the same: when the mood hits, I write some.

If there's a through line, it's attention to detail and respect for the people playing my games or reading my words. Time is precious. If you spend yours on something of mine, I want it to be worth it. That time could've gone to anything else, and I don't take it for granted.
